Hurricane Matthew

I have lived in South Florida for most of my life, and have seen many, many hurricanes. When Matthew was approaching, flash backs of prior storms filled my head. In 2004 this area had 4 major hurricanes hit it – Charley, Frances, Ivan and Jeanne.

According to the forecasters, Matthew should loop around in the Atlantic and come back through this area by next weekend. Ivan had done the same thing. He went up into the gulf through Georgia, looped down through the Atlantic, going over Florida, back into the gulf and finally going into Texas and Louisiana.

Ivan taught me that there is beauty even in the worst events and how the storms in our life make us more beautiful. I learned that like a broken bush, we will sprout new growth and become stronger than we were before. I also learned that every event which occurs happens for a reason; nothing is done without purpose; I needed a roof that year and was trying to figure out how to pay for it when Ivan came through.

Maybe Matthew is here because someone else needed a new roof or maybe to spark an idea on how to manage power to houses more efficiently.  It could be that families needed to be together for a little while because they are too busy at work or maybe an elderly person needed a few minutes of company and got it when someone came over to put shutters on her house. Maybe someone needed to earn some cash quickly and, because of the storm, his extra hand helping to put up hurricane shutters gave it to him. Or…. it could be all of the above.

I may not know all the reasons why a storm happens, but what I do know is that there is beauty in it. My faith says that God would not take a life without a just reason for it (maybe its time for that person to have victory and a much needed rest from life) and God would not destroy something unless its time to replace it with something better(a new roof), or even to take away something your addicted to(TV). God loves people and tries to make things better, but most will only see the destructive side, they do not see the beauty.

Welcome to my Garden of Eden; something I wish everyone could see. It makes life so much happier and easier to live once you start seeing the beauty in everything. Stress melts away like ice on a summers day at the beach. Worry disappears and tensions ease. You become a happier person and you shed those fears and feelings that destroy your sense of peace.

As Matthew loops around for round 2 in this area, I don’t think we will be as lucky missing the storm this time; the forecasters say it will come directly over us. And even though the storm will be weaker, it can still cause problems. But I don’t worry because I know that whatever happens, it will result in nothing but good things, for God is love.

Love is the most powerful force in the universe. Love always promotes growth, it is only people who make it into a bad thing, so try taking time to see the good in the bad events and let peace rule over your life. ENJOY IT and live it to its fullest without worries and concerns, but with peace and happiness.

A simple child of God trying to make life easier for everyone to enjoy
