Samuel said, “Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has also rejected you from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:22-23
Samuel spoke this to Saul, who the Lord appointed to be king over Israel. When Saul was made king over Israel, God’s commands to Saul were to Strike Amalek and utterly destroy all that he has. But Saul decided to save the king of Amalek and the best of the sheep, oxen and lambs and all that was good saying he would give them as a sacrifice to the Lord God.
But God did not desire this sacrifice, God desired to have obedience to His command. Saul rejected the command of God, thinking his way was better, so God rejected him as king. In fact, the words God used were “I regret that I have made Saul king”.
Saul had a choice to follow the command of God or to do things his own way and he chose to do things his own way and God rejected him as king.
We too have a choice when God puts something on our hearts. We can trust that God knows what He is doing and follow His command, or we can reject His word and try to do things our own way.
You will come out on top if you can take that step of faith and trust that God knows what He is doing. Be obedient to the Lord and be blessed.
