Are You Afraid?

In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?  Psalms 56:4

When I read this I was reminded of the story of Stephen (Acts 7:54-60). He was one who looked up to the heaven while being ridiculed and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. The people didn’t want to listen and covered their ears. Then they stoned Stephen to death. Stephen as he was breathing his last breath asked the Lord to not hold their sin against them. Just as Jesus when He was on the cross.

To be like Jesus is our goal. Stephen achieved that goal – he gave his life in order to teach the truth of the love of God. Stephen knew that He belonged to the Lord and that absolutely nothing was going to change that. He knew that God would not forsake him and he was willing to give it all, even his flesh.

What can man do to you that God cannot save you from? If man knocks you down, God is there to pick you up. If man tries to destroy you, God is there to save you. God is ever faithful to His word and He has promised to watch over you. It’s our responsibility to believe that promise.

So when you come against those who don’t want to listen, they cover their ears and try to destroy you, turn to them and stand on the word of God. Look that mortal man in the face, do not be afraid, and tell them how much they are loved and how Christ died for them. Then trust in the Lord because not one person, or being or anything can stand against the Lord our God.

You are His and He isn’t going to let you go.
