Be Content

But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. 1 Timothy 6:6 – 8

Godliness is your reverence for the Lord. It is how you worship, how you pray and how often you do it. More importantly it is how much of yourself you are willing to give to Him – How much you trust Him.

The word contentment in Greek is Autarkeia (ow-tar’-ki-ah) and it means a perfect condition of life in which no aid or support is needed, sufficiency of the necessities of life, a mind contented with its lot, contentment.

Paul was an excellent example of being content in any situation we run into. When he had a thorn in his side and asked for God’s help, God said that His grace should be sufficient for him. God said that power is perfected in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

You may have heard it said that the last will be first, the weakest will be strongest or the least will be the greatest. That is because when we are at our lowest, we tend to lean on God more than ever. We tend to humble ourselves and seek the Lord more.

Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11 – 13

Paul has been rich and poor, hungry and full. Paul learned that in no matter what situation we might be in, we can make it through because Christ is in us and gives us strength. Paul had to go through a lot of suffering, being in prison, beaten, he even was killed, but he was still ready to go forward and serve the Lord more than ever because he knew what was ahead.

But God has always been like that

God has never let His people down. He has always supplied the need. He has stayed faithful to His word. It has always been man who turns from God, chooses a path of unrighteousness and ultimately gets chastised in order to bring about repentance.

God supplied everything you need, you have food to eat and clothes to wear. You should take time to let God know how thankful you are for Him providing your needs and be content with everything else.

You may not have that huge boat or luxurious car or billion dollar mansion, but you have something more important than anything that money can buy – You have God’s love!

You have life.
