What About Wind?

The Lord has opened my eyes and my heart a lot over the last few days. And I have had the word WIND on my mind during this whole time. Even my pastor has been talking about wind. My friend said that maybe it means there is a change coming. And although I agree a change is coming that is not what I felt the Lord was trying to tell me. I was dealing with people telling me my church was a cult because they encourage the speaking in tongues. So when I prayed and searched the scriptures this is what I was led to.

As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ. Ephesians 4:14-15

Every wind of doctrine is the doctrines of the churches. The word doctrine here actually means instruction. The greek word is didaskalia (did-as-kal-ee’-ah). The instruction of the churches has differences between them because man can not agree and this is what keeps God’s people from being unified. There are many Christian denominations and each one seems to refuse to recognize the instruction which is in agreement and would rather condemn the others for the parts which are not in agreement. They refuse to see the fault in their own instruction, they refuse to see the different levels of understanding. Think of a seed. It starts as a seed, which grows into a sprout, which will slowly grow into a majestic tree or a beautiful flower, if it is fed good food. If it is not nutured it will not grow properly or it may even die. We are like those seeds, we will eventually grow into what the Lord would like, if we are nutured properly, but it takes time to learn and mature.

But I have to wonder how many churches are willing to really open their hearts to see this. How many will see that they are prideful and would be willing to admit they are not teaching a complete truth or that their interpretation might, in fact, be incorrect? How many people are stuck in their churches instruction and do not grow according to God’s instruction? There is not one church which is perfect, but how many think theirs is. Maybe that is why they do not grow up is because they already see themselves as being grown.

Pride is a very destructive thing.

Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before stumbling. Proverbs 16:18

The next part of the verse in Ephesians it says “the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming.” This is the twisting of words in order to get people into their churches or to not focus on the truth of the salvation of Christ. These are the people who look to headcount or dollar count before anything else. They are the ones who put the needs of the physical church before the spiritual church.

The book of Jude has some very wise words in it. It warns of greed and selfishness, of hatred and murder and following sinful ways such as homosexuality, sexual immorality and adultery. It also warns of rebellion of the leadership and also blasphemes of celestial beings. I would ask that you take the time to read and study Jude in full, but would like to take a moment to point out a couple of things in this book.

Yet in the same way these men, also by dreaming, defile the flesh, and reject authority, and revile angelic majesties. Jude 8

I am going to quote some of the notes I found on the word dreaming. It is not referring to false prophets in that term, but more to those who claim to receive revelations or to those whose passion causes them to be out of touch with truth and reality. Many people have such a passion to follow what their churches doctrine says that they never open their hearts to what God is saying to them. To defile the flesh is to engage in sexual immorality, adultery and homosexuality. To reject authority is to rebel against the leadership I see the Lord showing the leadership of the ENTIRE body of Christ in this, not just in one physical church. And I want to look closer at “revile angelic majesties”. Angelic majesties are celestial beings – angels, even Satan.

The original word for revile is blasphemeo (blas-fay-meh’-o) and it means to speak reproachfully, rail at, revile, calumniate, blaspheme.

I believe it is important to understand this definition because if you look at verse 9 it says that even Michael the archangel would not “pronounce against him a railing judgment”. A railing judgment would be to decide or judge that they are doing wrong. Who in heaven or earth has the authority to pass judgment on Satan? If an angel can not do it, we certainly cannot. Yet there are many who curse Satan each day, just as there are many who judge people each day. By who’s authority do we judge the salvation of others?

These are the grumblers, finding fault, following after their own lusts; they speak arrogantly, flattering people for the sake of gaining an advantage. Jude 16

Does this sound like anyone you know? Those who find fault in other churches or people maybe? To find fault in others is to seek our own desire to always be right – believing that we are better than others. When did we become perfect or better than others in the site of the Lord? Do you know people who use sweet words and flattery to bring people to the Lord instead teaching of love and truth? Do you know anyone who is arrogant? (Arrogant means to exaggerate your own worth.) Are you arrogant?

For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But each one must examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not to regard in another. Galatians 6:3-4

Are you something or are you nothing? We are to examine our work. Are we bending the truth in order to try to bring people to the Lord, even if it means to build on a bad foundation? Are we lying and deceiving in order to puff ourselves up and make it seem like we are being fruitful? Are we condemning and judging others when we have no authority to do such a thing, putting our selfish pride before others needs? Or are we sharing the Lord in truth and love and building on strong foundations, unifying to one body in Christ?

Many will, in fact, do anything and say anything to show they are fruitful. But are they really being fruitful? If you build on a bad foundation wouldn’t the walls crack and the structure eventually fall?

It took me a long time to learn something with this. I never thought I was being fruitful because I never seemed to bring people to the Lord. I thought I was failing God. My friends would constantly tell me that we don’t always see the fruit we bare, but I rejected that, thinking they are only trying to make me feel better. I realize now that I did not truly understand what they were saying until something happened recently and my eyes were opened.

Showing God’s love and teaching of His mercy and forgiveness, never condemning but accepting and loving each person for who they are to the Lord (not to me or anyone else), will help to build on a solid foundation; a foundation of truth and love, not condemnation, deceit and fear. Each person will have to make their own choice of whether to accept Jesus as their sacrifice. How many would in truth come to the Lord when they are taught by deceit and how many more would come to the Lord in truth when taught of God’s love in truth.

Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit.  Matthew 7:16-18

You will know them by their fruit. The fruit is the fruit of the Spirit. This is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 55:2-23) Check the fruit of a person. Is it good fruit or is it rotten? Does it look good on the outside but is bad on the inside? False prophets and teachers can look good on the outside, but are rotten on the inside. They are like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. All cute and pleasant on the outside, but on the inside there is little or no love. The Lord told me a long time ago that we are to bite into the fruit and make sure it is good to the core.

Father God you are the author and creator of all living things. Thank you, Lord, for your loving grace and mercy.  Thank you for your light and love. Thank you for your patience and peace. Help each person examine themselves in Your truth, Father, and only Your truth. Help us Lord to unify and become one body. We are mere specs of sand alone, but bonded together with Your love we can be bricks on Your wall. You, Father, are love and truth and I ask that each person see that truth. Father, I ask that you show each person the wolves, the ones who are false. Let those who are not of You stand out like a sore thumb so we have absolutely no doubt which ones to avoid learning from. We thank you, Lord, for being faithful always. Thank you for protecting and guiding us in that which is right. We love You, Lord, and trust in only You. In the blessed name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
